How To Remove Quarter Turn Tap Handle
- #1
Morning.
I have a dripping bath tap that's driving me insane. Stock-still the odd tap before but information technology was unproblematic, this one is challenging me.
Both hot and cold are quarter turn and the leak is from hot (left hand side). The hot tap turns farther than it should do when shutting off, and then maybe the tap is damaged hence why it'due south dripping.
I read it could be the headgear cartridge that needs replacing so I am willing to give this a go... even so, afterwards removing the handle Information technology appears there is no grub spiral within to release the tap head to access the cartridge. At that place is no cap to pull off of the top either.
Please see images.
Thanks for any suggest.

Thanks for your reply Blup. I wasn't aware that some taps were unservicable... would explain things. I took the side console off a few weeks back and it looked like at that place was very little room for maneuver as i couldnt even see the taps from underneath. I volition take the console off again and take a picture, and would appreciate your help from there. If the bath needs to come out and so information technology needs to come out.
Cheers

I've only changed our bathroom. The one nosotros had, had the taps halfway along on the wall side. It would have been impossible to take got them out with the bathroom in situ and I smashed the bath to pieces to aid removal. The new one had the taps fitted at the stop. Looks like a bath out job I'm afraid unless there's a hidden grub screw round the dorsum of the tap or the caput only levers off. I'd requite it a go before taking the bathroom out - what have you got to lose?

Cut access hatch if it is a room the other side of the wall.

It may be that the heads can be removed (pulled off) if you first plow the taps to the full-on position.
Endeavor pulling on the valve heads and slowly turn them whilst continuing to pull.
You might but feel a sweet-spot where the caput tends to give a little which would indicate where they need to exist to permit pulling off.
Or it could be that corrosion 'snot' is locking the caput onto the valve spindle.

I levered the caput off our 1/4 plough tap, then the cartridge unscrewed from the peak.
Worth a become, bath out or admission from other side of wall as had been said otherwise..

Cheers for the replies guys its given me some promise. In that location'south no way the miss volition permit me to knock through the master sleeping accommodation wall into the bathroom, so that'south out the question but a very proficient idea.
I've turned the tap head fully circular and defo no grub spiral hiding in there then i'm but hoping it is a PULLY OFF-ER...like the picture beneath from Keithmac.
Just going to get in the bath before i end up destroying it lol.
Will keep y'all posted. Thank yous.

Somehow (funell & small-scale tube?) get some kil-roc descaler through that hole and get out before you start pulling the head off, likewise be ready for it suddenly come off and so don`t go banging your head or putting your back out when information technology does pop off.

Ok thanks. Volition purchase some descaler tomorrow and leave information technology for a few hours. Good shout.

Pour a kettle of boiling water slowly over the head, put common cold moisture material around the base of the tap first.
